16. Marriage and Family. Every person has the right to marry and have a family if they want to. Men and women have the same rights when they are married, and when they are separated.
Every person has the right to marry and have a family, without limitation due to race, nationality or religion. And each person must to free to give or withhold their consent. The family is the fundamental unit of society and must be protected. But the Universal Declaration of Human Rights goes farther to note that once married, each person maintains their individual rights. And, in cases of divorce or dissolution, each person shall be treated equally and fairly.
